  • I am applying for this role because I'm genuinely interested in people and putting them at ease, qualities that are like breathing for me and I would love to contribute these qualities to supporting current and prospective University of Essex students. Specifically because asking for help or support does not come easily for most people and my key goal is to work together with the student union and the university to make it easier for students to ask for support and access already existing support structures.

  • Prior to enrolling at the University of Essex, I worked in the service industry for 12 years. An experience that helped me to build interpersonal, listening, problem solving and people management skills. I am also currently studying to be a social worker and have received several training’s including conflict resolution, disability awareness, equality and diversity, health, safety and welfare among others. Combining these skills and training with my previous work experiences make me uniquely qualified for this role.

  • Welfare is 24/7 in all aspects of your university experience; you need a VP Welfare who understands and will not only listen to but prioritize the student voice on important matters. This is why I am running to continue being your VP Welfare because I am that that person.

With me your welfare is my priority I fight for your causes, your concerns, and your issues. At my time at Uni, I have been a very active member and I have worked closely with different communities to bring about change for a more accessible campus such as quiet hours in the store or the Ivor Crewe now open 24/7 as an acessible route around campus. I have led initiatives to help combat loneliness on campus such as SU groups and I have worked hard to improve safety on campus and a working with the council on an environmental audit of areas around campus, so students feel safer. But the work isn’t done yet I am still as passionate and determined as every to keep breaking barriers, keep working with SWIS to ensure students are given maximum support, carry on lobbying to increase counselling Services and reduce queue and waiting time and improving your safety on campus.

  • I have practical solutions to truly improve your university experience and to carry on improving our practices as an SU to ensure that the SU remains for students by students with your welfare as a priority. As already proven this year I will not be the VP Welfare that just ticks off boxes regarding student needs I make meaningful change. I am not afraid to take on the university on your behalf. I listen and I am there for you and I work hard to make sure that your issues are not just resolved but I try to ensure it would not happen to another student. I am passionate about mental health and ensuring the student experience is a positive and safe one. I am a good listener and friendly and approachable. A Vote for Nifemi Wilson-Adu is a Vote for:

SUPPORT in ALL aspects of your Student experience. You deserve to thrive not just survive.

A champion of INCLUSIVITY & DIVERSITY - We are a campus for all so let’s make sure all students on all three campuses can access our services and let's keep breaking down barriers preventing them from doing so.

A very passionate CHANGEMAKER I have the experience and I have proven I can meaningfully change for students, and I want to carry on doing so.
