Transparent | Equitable | Adaptable

  • Students need someone willing to speak up even when no one wants to. The university, just like the world, requires efficient change.

My main goal is to make Essex feel like a community that every student can fit into, which can only happen by being transparent and equitable. Universities across the UK are going through tough times, meaning next year will be a pivotal moment to keep standards high and maintain student experience. As President, I will certify students are prioritised and supported in all parts of their degree by actively seeking feedback, participating in committees, and representing their needs.

After being exposed to student feedback as a Faculty Convenor and understanding how the University and Students’ Union collaborate, I know there is a possibility to address issues at a faster rate. The university needs to streamline the services that it already provides, creating a clear plan that students can take part in. Growth doesn’t only mean innovation. It means learning from what we already have.

Being at university is so much more than getting a degree. It means enjoying your day-to-day life as a student and growing as an individual. I am here to improve your quality of education and make sure you feel welcome, have fun, and enjoy your time at Essex.

  • With almost two years of experience in the corporate world, I learned how to deal with senior colleagues, grew to be a leader, and made my voice heard. Now, I have what it takes to represent the student voice.

During my undergraduate degree, I have demonstrated that I care about students and understand their needs, successfully working my way up from a Student Representative to a Faculty Convenor. In this role, I not only got the chance to speak to students across the university but also represented them in multiple committees, certifying issues were raised and addressed. Changing is essential for the SU, as it is in constant flux due to new students arriving every year. To fight this, I have and continue to work on how to accommodate new cohorts and create a creative community for everyone to thrive.

I got the chance to complete a placement year at Pfizer, focusing on stakeholder management and building a network. By working hard and evolving in the company, I achieved my first managerial role in a team of six people.

Additionally, my analytical science background has provided me with the power to understand data to a better level and truly focus on what matters. As the President's role involves participating in many committees, my experience will help me target challenges effectively.

From my career so far, I can safely say that I have made it my mission to make sure every student counts and no one is left behind.

Transformative | Vocal | Unifying

Watch my video:

  • Every year, student leaders promise to listen. And they do…However, listening is where it often ends. They hear us but fall short in taking action, in representing us when it truly matters. This is why I stand out.

My commitment goes beyond listening. I aim to actively represent you: to be the voice that's not afraid to dissent, that won't be silenced, and that bravely stands up for your needs.

You deserve representation by someone bold, passionate, and vocal in discussions that matter to you. You deserve student leaders who are your allies, who you can trust to support you.

I also recognize the struggles societies face. My agenda includes creating regular opportunities for fundraising, empowering societies to offer more to their members, as well as increasing visibility for ALL societies by establishing a platform where students can easily promote their events. This will unify the student community by promoting a multicultural environment where all students are encouraged to connect in an inclusive space.

Transparency is non-negotiable. You have the right to be informed about decisions impacting our community, to understand changes affecting your student experience, and to be involved throughout the decision-making process. will make sure transparency is what you will see with me as your president.

As your future* SU President, my focus extends to enhancing your opportunities and boosting your employability at Essex. I want to supercharge your career with endless possibilities and make sure you are prepared for life outside university in the best way.

  • My track record speaks volumes about my commitment to listening and taking decisive action based on student feedback.

For example, I have recognised and identified the desire and need for social events beyond the typical nightlife and outside of drinking culture, so I consistently organise events where students can come together in an inclusive, alcohol-free environment for everyone to enjoy. These events have been extremely popular, with over 100+ students attending, clearly showing that I listen to exactly what students want and need, and demonstrate my creativity to organising events where students can socialise over more than board games at a student mixer.

As a society president, project leader, and peer mentor within my department, I've perfected my ability to represent and advocate for ALL students confidently. My roles have placed me at the heart of the student community, and I have already become a trusted point of contact for students seeking support and solutions to their problems. Through this, I have gained a deep understanding of student needs and the creative problem-solving skills to address them effectively.

Additionally, my involvement in supporting students with finding both part-time and full-time employment has highlighted the critical importance of being provided with meaningful opportunities which can transform your career, reinforcing my dedication to enhancing career prospects for you.

Therefore, my leadership, advocacy, and fearlessness of speaking up on your behalf alongside my passion for boosting your employability is why I am the SU president you need and deserve.

Watch my video:

  • Since joining Essex four years ago, I've witnessed a variety of challenges that the Student Union has faced, ranging from the impacts of COVID-19 and the Cost-of-Living Crisis to the tense political atmosphere arising from conflicts abroad. Understandably, the University had to make decisions including the postponement and cancellation of numerous services due to the pandemic. However, I find myself questioning why many of these services haven't yet resumed, especially considering the positive impact they had on students previously.

I aim to guarantee that all students receive consistent support from both the SU and the University, ensuring it is responsive to academic, economic, and political changes. Furthermore, I want to ensure nightlife on campus is student-responsive, creating a dynamic nightlife that fits the diverse interests of our students.

Moreover, following the discontinuation of ‘VP International’, one of my focuses is on ensuring that international students, along with marginalised communities, continue to receive the support they might need. While the SU effectively addresses the needs of these communities, I’ll build upon efforts by organising events that encourage integration within these communities.

Joining the SU Trustee Board in 2021, I have worked closely with three different Student Leadership teams. Allowing me to experience the inner workings of the SU, in which I aim to build upon the progress they made, emphasising actions proven to be beneficial for students. Being closely involved with the SU over the years has made my transition to president a natural continuation from my current position.

  • A significant part of being SU’s President comes from serving as a Trustee, a role in which I’ve served for years. In this, I've built relationships with members from both the SU and university such as directors and the Vice Chancellor. To add to my experience, this responsibility has developed my confidence skills even further in questioning and challenging motions presented to the board to ensure the most suitable outcome and decisions were made for students.

I’ve recently been fortunate to become a Communications Intern for Essex Abroad. Through this, I have focused on finding new ways of connecting with students digitally. As President, I would like to pioneer new and innovative ways of driving student engagement on campus.

When I studied abroad, I became more culturally aware, allowing me to understand both the struggles and joys faced by international and UK students when travelling abroad. Acclimatising to a new environment can be exciting, but not without its challenges. In my time abroad I was exposed to another student community, and I hope to bring insights that worked in their community here to Essex to ensure a smooth transition. Lastly, having experienced these struggles myself, a key focus would be on providing support regarding visas, fostering social integration, and addressing financial challenges.

Most importantly, I am an open and empathetic individual, who always has time to listen and advocate for others and I love a chat so please do come over whether it's in sub-zero or the squares.

  • The greatest leaders are not the most talkative, but in reality, listen before they speak. I am applying for this role, so that I can put your needs before my own, be it in the academics, the co-curricular, mental health, etc. I am here, to listen and to execute the plan. As Lord Krishna had once said, Karmanye Vadhikaraste, Ma Phaleshu Gadachana, Ma Karma Phala He Turbur, Maate Sangosthva Karmani. I am here to do my duties, devoid of any expectations.

  • Listening: I plan to create a more listening oriented BOD for the students, as more often than not, a huge fraction of voices (especially the minorities) get lost in the voices of the majority.

A Sense of Order: As A Law Student myself, this is where my knowledge will be playing a pivotal role. As how the government operates with many bodies underneath, I plan to create a special operating body which will cater for the needs and wants in efficient immediacy.

Amicability: As leader, I only wish to be one among you, in comparison to the one for you. This is the dynamic I intend to bring, to abolish this leader follower system.
